Ergonomics
Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are among the most frequently reported causes of lost or restricted work time. These injuries and illnesses can be painful, long-lasting, and often result in expensive workers’ compensation claims. Implementing ergonomics can significantly reduce MSD hazards by fitting the workplace to the worker.
Common Risks:
Awkward Postures: Working in bent, twisted, or overhead positions for extended periods can strain muscles and joints.
Repetitive Motions: Performing the same movements frequently, such as typing or assembly line work, can lead to overuse injuries.
Forceful Exertions: Lifting heavy objects, gripping tools tightly, or pushing/pulling with excessive force can strain muscles and tendons.
Vibration: Prolonged exposure to vibrating tools or equipment can cause nerve and blood vessel damage.
Static Postures: Maintaining the same posture for a long time can restrict blood flow and cause muscle fatigue.
Contact Stress: Repeated pressure on body parts from tools or workstations can cause nerve and tissue damage.
